Probably the ultimate modelling I've seen are the intricate bone sailing ships made during and after the Napoleonic war by French POWs.

Interesting indeed Dragnet. It may be a trick of the lighting, but the Swaz on the poster in the photo is no where near as pronounced as the one on the nice example that you've posted.
