    SBD-5 Dauntless

    A recent commission project, Accurate Miniatures 1/48 SBD-5, VB-16, USS Lexington, 1943.

It's a great kit straight out-of-box, needing no further enhancements.

She's a beauty Mike. With the right backdrop, a person would be hard pressed to determine if that was a model or an actual plane.

Super nice job on the model.

A true, recent, "pre-troubles" Dauntless story. A neighbor teaches 3rd grade at a private school near me in central Virginia, USA. One day about a month ago she asks if I have a model of a S B Something. I say, you mean SBD Dauntless? Yes, a student wants to see one, build one, is interested in one, etc.!!! Where did that come from? Probably the somewhat recent 2019 Midway movie. No, sez I, you are 50 years too late. (I know I built the Monogram 1/48 kit in my youth.) But, go to the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico to see the genuine article - so I recommended. Maybe mom and son will visit some fine day.

                        Thanks for the compliment.

Your friend can still find the kit on ebay, now under Academy or Italeri branding. I'd suggest. however, that it's only suitable for a modeller with some experience.
