I'm stunned, Dave was a real nice guy. I met him at the Pomona shows and he was allways in a good mood. He would let you handle his RK's, even for a novice like me. He had a great sense of humor, joking one time if I really had a son named Vincent. Once he met Vince he treated him to a lot of free goodies. I believe his wife name is Cindy, I hope she is well and God Bless.
RIP Dave, you will be missed.

I've just heard the terrible news..

Dave helped me so much when I first started collecting and he took me under his wing which I will always remember and appreciate.

Never got to meet him in person although he often said I could come and visit anytime I liked. He was a great guy and I'm truly shocked and sad he's gone.

Dave was my first mentor in this hobby, and a real gentleman who was willing to share his expertise with a complete and total novice at the time. I visited his home when I was in California several years ago and he really put on the dog for me and wouldn't let me pay for a thing. Rest in Peace, Dave - you will be missed.

"Big Daddy" had his own way of saying things, and once he said it, he stuck with it, but in the end he was right 98% of the time. I think he and I only disagreed strongly once, but it was civil.

I had only email contacts with him in the years before he sold off his collection, but he did have some interesting insights that I had never considered before.

I can't second this sentiment enough....He was EXTREMELY kind to me, when I first started, here, and I'll never forget him.....

Only the good die young. What a shock. I haven't talked to Dave in a while, but we had many great discussions on panzer caps, crushers, etc. He had the best knowledge of RK's of anyone I've met to date. I will miss him.

This is terrible, shocking news and I have tears in my eyes as I write this.
Dave was a very good friend of mine, and truly one of the good guys.

Sadly, we'd lost touch after he left WAF and only spoke occasionally after that.
I think our interests grew apart somewhat...he pretty much divested of militaria and developed a passion for boating.

Just the other day I was kicking myself for not having spoken to him at Christmas...and now this.

For those of you that don't know, Dave was an ex-policeman who built his own private investigation firm in Los Angeles.
I will truly miss "Private Dick".

That picture brings back memories - the "Wall of Visors". The only time I ever truly handled an original RK was in that same room - and I had three cased ones in my hand at the same time. I know Dave rubbed some people the wrong way, but all I can say is that you had to know the man. I am a better person for it, and the world is worse off without him.
