This bomber also holds a special meaning for me...

My Grandfather's cousin was a front gunner in a Wellington.

I have his diary in which he reveals taking part in the first 1000 bomber raid over Germany.

Unfortunately his Wellington did not make it back from a mission and he is buried in Hamburg I believe.

Fascinating. Thanks for posting. My Great Uncle was the Pilot of a Wellington with 75 NZ Squadron, killed in October 1941. I visited R for Robert at Brooklands in 2017. I'd love to see this one recovered.
