    Concentration Camp Study Trip - Autumn 2019 - Auschwitz

    We return to Auschwitz for a further study of the most infamous of all Konzentrationslagers. This visit will take place just a few weeks prior to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the camp, thus making it an interesting time to see the site. Dates and details below:

    Tuesday 19th November

    Depart from Prague collection point and travel to our overnight stop near to the camp

    Wednesday 20th November

    Full day of study at the Auschwitz sites, including several areas previously not included in our study trips. Evening meal and return to Prague.

    If you are seriously interested and have any questions, please let me know ASAP as there are, as ever, limited places available. We are also pleased to welcome back members who have been with us before.

    Please note that this will be the only study trip we offer this year.

    Some places already taken with flights and hotel already reserved. If interested, feel free to contact (via PM) for further details.

      Trip

      Well, I have gotten to know Carl in the last couple of years or so and I can say that he has been nothing but honest in our dealings (which have been numerous) and professional.

      He has shown myself and others a true passion in this field of study and I was fascinated by his knowledge of this tragic time in history-stuff you just don't read about in books.

      In addition as some know he has been/is a trusted contributor to some major jewish affiiliated institutions.

      My ten cents.

        Perhaps if you did a little research into who we are and what we do, you'd find that the study trips are non-profit. Costs involved for visitors cover the travel expenses, nothing more. Countless hours have been spent in the preparation for such trips, various research projects in conjunction with international institutions such as the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, KZ-Gedenkstätte Floßenbürg, JMP (Jewish Museum Prague) and the like, not to mention the published works that I have been involved with and all without any financial reward. I do not have to justify it further, you are simply wrong.

          Why were there brothels, theatres and a swimming pool?
          Why were thousands of children born within these barbed wire and heavily fortified fences. Are these questions allowed to be asked?
          My 13 year old twin daughter’s have been asked me these questions? What should be my answer?

            How dare you ask pertinent questions!In some countries, such as Germany, you go to jail for questioning certain 'facts'. Perhaps the tour should include a trip to the 'infamous' Gulag system in Russia, but of course there is no memorial to the millions killed in that genuine genocide.

                I have never been to Auschwitz, but when/if I go, I would rather go with someone knowledgeable about the area and subject matter to get real perspective. I dont see anything wrong with paying someone to get a tour. I would much prefer a tour guide that is generally interested in history than someone who is doing it just to pay the bills.

                  I went there with my kids with a guide and I am glad we decided to go with the guide. You get so much more information and of course all questions are answered. Standing there in front of where the Orchestra played is quite a moment. And Krakow where you will probably stay is a beautiful place. Rob

                    If your daughter is really interested in finding answers to these and other questions I would suggest sitting her down with 100 or so books documentaries When she is a bit older and she will discover the truth herself, these things existed and if anyone attempts to suggest that somehow the camp.. and I am speaking of auschwitz did not exist due to brothel and swimming pool they are seriously misguided. I would suggest the six part BBC series on Auschwitz as a good start to get an overview, while it does not cover swimming pools, which were for the guards obviously it does touch up on the brothel. I have been to Auschwitz and many other camps and I’m always amazed that some people diminish or seek to minimize what happened there.

                      Because it was actually a luxury resort! Maybe you should tour it with who I had the good fortune or misfortune of being in the company of. The world famous author and historian (or revisionist) David Irving. He may go along with your luxury resort way of thinking. No one else is going to. Me included. And I have been to Dachau twice, Treblinka, Sobibor, Belzec, ect... Johnno.

                        sure you can buy postcards,,and books, prints, DVDs there... But its not about tourism,,not about the $/euro/Yen....

                        I got a driver that took us from the Krakow train station to the camp AND acted as a guide for us [spent 3 hrs with us] for a total of $100.!

                        No one cares there IF you go or not...
                        It's about how unbelievable one human can be to another.. The horror, the degradation, the hopelessness one must have experienced there. The making of a cold blooded murder factory done as common/simple as a bakery or grainery..

                        To make sure its there to see / experience for the nut jobs that say it never was... To see and show what schools barely touch upon anymore,,,,to make sure that by seeing its never forgotten....

                          Is it actually a 'study trip' as advertised, and if so what is the subject/s to be studied? Will the findings be published in a journal etc? I would be interested to read anything which has published.

                          Or is it just a guided tour - which is a totally different (and non-scientific) thing entirely.

                            It is titled "study trip" as generally, we go into greater depth than a typical visit would with one of the museum educators - note that they are no longer referred to as tour guides. Use of the term tour is also incorrect by definition as tour relates to a journey for pleasure in which several different places are visited

                            (hardly the best way to describe such a visit)

                              My thought of study is completely completely different from your study.
                              I’ve also been to Auschwitz and to Dachau.
                              What you see today as a representative compareded to what was there before the Soviets arrived is an historical lie and a misrepresented of what really happened
