The battle which will become the epitome of the futility of World War One began on this day 21 February in 1916. A visit to the ossuary there would be good lest we forget.

Unimaginable slaughter
Verdun personifies the "evil" of war and man's inability to find solutions to territorial and/or ideological disputes. Verdun was a ghastly, horrific sacrifice on the altar of stupidity.How those survivors came through goodness only knows? -
I see two very different sets of players.
The poor solders from all sides, and those politicians & generals that sent them there...
May the solders rest in peace and not be forgotten
