Monuments and Memorials , Doylestown, Pa

I have been by this monument hundreds of times in the center of Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The other day I stopped to give it a closer look. Turns out it is one of the first ever Civil War monuments erected. A very plain and simple obelisk, very weathered and worn. Until you read the inscription . "Their Good swords rust and their steeds are dust, But their souls are with the saints we trust". To the 104th Penna. volunteers known as the "Ringgold Regiment". These men manned the battery known as the "Swamp Angel" famous for firing on Charleston, SC. from swampy ground near Morris Island. After using up the rounds manufactured by Robert P. Parrott, inventor of the Parrott Rifle a mixture of "creek fire " disabled the gun forever. I must remember to " stop and smell the roses".
