Next up I went searching for the remains of Haleiwa field, the auxiliary field from which Lts. George Welch and Kenneth Taylor took off from when Wheeler AAF and Schofield Barracks were under attack, eventually shooting down seven Japanese aircraft between them. I found the main entry gates and some of the (post-1941) tarmac back in an overgrown area. Not much left today:

Next up, Schofield Barracks, home of the 25th Infantry Division "Tropic Lightning" and the setting for the novel and film From Here to Eternity, written by James Jones, who was stationed at Schofiled in the 1930's. The red bullseye on the wall of the Tropic Lightning Museum is said to indicate three Japanese machine gun bullets that struck the building on December 7:
