In 1983 a group of my friends, my brother, and I were exploring this exact bunker because the grass was trimmed. My brother was standing on the mortar dome and it started rising and rotating. Minutes later tourist came out. We were dressed in US camo with metal dectors, so everyone told us about the tour. The next weekend we went to the entrance several miles away and took the tour. Well worth it if you are in the area.

I have recently returned from a visit to Hackenberg. It was an amazing experience and one that I can easily recommend.

I attended the afternoon tour. It is 2 1/2 hours in duration and is lead by a very knowledgeable volunteer. The 2 1/2 hours flew by and felt like 5 minutes. Although it was 40c outside I still needed to wear a hoodie whilst inside.

The highlights for me were riding on the Ammunition train, seeing how the 135mm gun turret was operated. The guide then proceeded to start the turret allowing us to see it elevating and rotating. An unbelievable moment.

Finally some of the photos I took....

                        Hello Ian,

okay, it was just to be sure that it was still here, those we can't be sure as many are removed or refurbished.
