    Best Re-enactment groups

    Hello fellow enthusiasts/lunatics

I've been meaning to join a re-enactment group for a long time and would preferably love to join a German one. Are there any members here that re-enact and could possibly give me some insight into the reenacting world? Does anybody have a particular favourite?

    Cheers.

Tom, I'm not a re-enactor myself but if I could afford to do it, time and money I mean, I would join the Second Battle Group. http://www3.mistral.co.uk/sbg1/about.htm
I've met a few of the members and they're a top bunch of guys.

The best site to find out more about all the groups in the UK is:

        Reenactors

There are plenty of good reenacting units in the UK. Recommend you start at a these websites to get spun-up on the hobby:

        http://www.reenactor.net/

        http://ww2reenactors.proboards35.com

These links can get you pointed in the right direction with links to units and organizations. Visit some of the local events and contact and try to meet the groups before you join. Then Join a group and or unit that is in your area. Units are only as good as their member! Don't buy any kit till after you've joined a unit, they should help you get set up. Hope this helps!

I am from the US and am in Second Panzer here in the midwest, but if you are interested in a german army impression, I would recommend 916th Regt in the UK, a swell bunch of guys with a real eye for accuracy.

Hi Tom, both SBG and 916th are both long established and professional groups who I have worked with in the past 25 + years

I fact, I was at an event this past weekend with a few of the "916th". I must say they died well under the guns of "2nd Guards Rifle"

How about joining us? We have a very active unit with plenty of shows booked for this year, plus a unit trip to Berlin

            Cheers, Ade.

Hi i am a member of the 916th and we have high standards maby the highest in the reenactment world as they will not let you wear any thing that is unauthentic i got told off for not having leather shoe laces and post war gaiters they will also not allow swedish conversions. but we are a nice bunch of guys all ways having a laugh. we also do unit trips the last one being a special one as it was for the 60th Anniversary celebrations held at Diekirch on the Hoesdorf Plateau on the xxxxvIIth Panzerkorps route of advance. This involved spending a night in positions held by the two sides over night, (-3 overnight). In the morning we followed the 8km route of advance taken 60 years earlier to Diekirch in full kit carrying ammo and rifles. it was amazing marching through the villages and having the locals looking at you if you do want to join us send me a PM and i will send your E-mail adresse to my unit comander and he will get in touch with you.
Adrian did they do a battle at the weekend cause i was told that most had dropped out so not to come? also do you know many people from the 916th as one of them is my dad!
hope that info helps you Tom

Hi Adam, welcome to the forum!

I know several from 916th. Ron, Nigel, Fetos, etc. Ron was there at the weekend. He was taken prisoner and then shot while trying to escape. They did not stop over night. It was below zero and we slept out in original kit, no modern sleeping bags, etc. It was a great weekend.

We will be doing a battle again with you at Twinwoods.

                Cheers, Ade.

Hi Tom, you won't go far wrong with the groups mentioned. Like any membership the more you put in, the more you will get out of it.

Get in touch with a group and try and attend a show and have a chat with some of the members. See how the group is run. Never buy any kit until you join a group, due to standards. Don't let a dealer fob you off with the old line "This is just the same as wartime" as you can easily get lumbered with an item that is not acceptable. Most groups have recommended suppliers of uniforms and kit. Some, all ours, actually have a QM with items for sale.

Make sure you join a group that has plenty of events too. You want to get out there and use the kit that you buy.

                    Cheers, Ade.
