    Jakob,

Your post sent me straight to the bookshelf. I knoe I have a map but can't find the reference, really annoying! then I got called for dinner.

So far the only thing I can lay my hands on is Lost Victories by Erich von Manstein. On page 290 (map 15) there is a basic map, I will keep looking because I know I have a better one.

      Peter.

Thank you. It's very nice of you. I have searched in many maps, but I have never found a map showing the Kuban bridgehead.
I don't have "lost victories", but it seems like I'll have to get it.

I'm looking forward to your next posting.

      Kind regards
      Jakob

        Grüß Gott Jakob,

I should have some maps of this area....I think I even have an original German wartime map of the Kuban/Kaukasus region. The 4th Gebirgs "Enzian" Division was in the Kuban. I have a friend who is a Gebirgsjäger veteran from this division who was there.

          Jakob,

It's my pleasure. If you let me know your e-mail address I will scan the map that I have (and the other one when I find it!!)

Here is a sketch of the Kubanbrückenkopf from Julius Braun's book "Enzian und Edelweiß: Die 4. Gebirgsdivision 1940-45."

Here is an original German map of the Kaukasus-Kuban area. An interesting note about this map is that it is printed on the back of a Russian army map.

Apparently the fishing was rather good in this area too!

Now you see the real reason the Germans invaded the Soviet Union. They wanted all the caviar!
