I find it quite reasonable to use a portion of the vast amount of helmets for something useful. There really was not much use for them after the Nazi state came down. BW and NVA used them for a while in the late 40's and 50's, and collectors hoarded a good amount for themselves as well.

I have paid more for my wife's kitchenalia (not sure that's a word) than I have for a helmet- (the le creuset tho imo is worth it for the bourgionon)...good use!!
