    Another warcrime-The Hemevez Massacre

    War crimes and unwarranted executions do not know a nationality and are not endemic only to the enemy, but here is a footnote to the D-Day invasion.
    I hesitate to use the word 'footnote', because these men deserve a better word than that. I just don't know another word to use in context on a day that was so huge and had so many praiseworthy and heroic * ignoble actions happen in a 24 hour period.
    Still, it is to be said that these men were heroes, doing their duty, trying their best to liberate a subject people and country from a disreputable and evil regime.
    They should be honored for that!

    Very interesting footage. A war crime in the West.

    Any legal proceedings after the war? I ask this because usually Americans, wrongly or rightly, did not leave unavenged their dead. On the other hand the shock troops are accustomed not to give and not to ask quarter. Probably they had the misfortune to encounter troops used to that kind of war, perhaps veterans of the eastern front who carried out to the letter the orders related to the treatment of the enemy paratroopers. I remember that several years ago I saw some terrifying images of a couple of German paratroopers mutilated and tortured to death during the battle of Crete (and this despite Beevor is anxious in his little romanced book of 1991 to talk about some sporadic and isolated cases). War is undoubtedly the worst of evils and the true hell on earth.

      I've got only the same information as you. Anonymous troops beating prisoners and then shooting them.
      No one ever opened their mouths that I know of.

        Interesting video. As most of us have come to realize, the Germans did not make it a habit of mistreating enemy soldiers, especially surrendered ones. This video is a little hard to explain away as you have a eyewitness to confirm what appears to be head shots. I always want to be fair and to step away for a moment to analyze the situation. You have a landing, heavy fire fight, surrender, and then bodies taken back to firefight location to be shot. Doesn't make any sense. Why not interrogate, then shoot close to HQ. If this was a execution I would love to know what units where there. Could be ostfront vets who had no patience for soldiers not giving any info at a time the Germans desperately needed to know something. Could they have attempted a ruse? Taking soldiers back to battle site to get important items, then tried to run etc. Could it be ost (Ruissian) troops who had custody of these men and cared less if they shot them or not? This would be a great investigation for a battle field detective who was fair and free from per-conceived perceptions. I have not seen anything about Germans being investigated or charged in this, so why would the Allies just sweep it under the rug? Like TP said, we went after anyone who mistreated our soldiers, sometimes exacting a heavy vengeance.
