    Visting Schloss Klessheim

    Hello,

I am heading back to Germany again this September. For part of the trip, I will be spending two days in the Berchtesgaden/Salzburg region. Is Schloss Klessheim worth a short visit?

    Has anyone visited Klessheim? Thoughts?

    Many Thanks.

I made a visit back in 2008. Beautiful grounds, pretty inside - and was a Casino when I was there [a great place to lose your money].

Be sure to take a tie, as if I recall correctly, they require fairly formal dress to enter.

[We did not wear formal clothes - just showed up as "Tourists" - and they let us in to walk around anyhow. Felt out-of-place, but didn't care ]

      Thanks for the info.

You just need formal clothes for the casino, right?

      Best Regards.

Ditto all. I was allowed to just walk in, in my normal jeans, when I told them I just wanted to look inside, not play cards or anything. The marble staircases seen in photos are still there, and the outside looks pretty much the same. I drove by there 2 days ago, but I didn't stop then. But if you stop at the former Chiemsee Rasthaus, you can get away with walking in like you belong there, and right past the front desk. But don't hang around long or get caught taking photos - you'll be invited to leave immediately (it's a private clinic now - what a shame!).
Honestly, with just two days in the area in your itinerary, I'd spend all the time in BGL and on the Obersalzberg. I just returned from seven days there - never enough time.

          Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your feedback as well.

This will be my fourth time visiting Berchtesgaden, though a first for my wife. I've hit all the "highlights" in the past - Obersalzberg, Berghof site, stayed at the Zum Türken, Eagle's Nest, Königsee, Salt-Mine tour, Salzburg, Burg Hohenwerfen, usw. It's all new to my wife so we will do a few of the basics like the Eagle's Nest and Salzburg. If we can squeeze it in, then we will stop by the Schloss as well.

          Best Regards.
