A trip to Normandy in June?

    Hello,

i'm thinking of going to Normandy in June to visit some places.
Seems a lot of hotels are being booked up now.
I want to stay in Caen as i will have a car.

should i book it now? how long would be needed for a trip i'm thinking a week or maybe more?
i'm thinking of getting there on the 2ed which is a thursday.

is there much to see around the Falaise pocket and more inland?

    Thanks

Naturally june is the busiest time of year - I prefer to go end of april / early may. I recommend not to stay in Caen, its just a big modern town, not much left of its old charme. And its on the most eastern point of the sector. Stay at or around Bayeux, or rent a holdiday house near a beach, they dont cost much, and you will enjoy the sceneray and quietness every day ;-)

And of course there is a lot to see. You just have to be more specific, what do you wanna see?
"Just" the beaches and museums, or battlefields, famous crossroads, buildings, hedgerows, etc? This needs to be sorted out 1st, before making a time-frame. You can stay a week or 1 months, depending on this.

Ahh so you think that is a bad idea i would like it to be quite hot for the wife also.
Ahh maybe Bayeux then might be better.
I want to visit the museums the main beaches also where the SS fought and the main sites. The German war graves Herr Wittmann's grave. villers bocage where he knocked out the tanks and where his tank was disabled. also where his tank was knocked out.
i want to visit the battle from the beaches down through Cean to Falaise pocket aswell.

I have some then and now books "Panzers in normandy" and "D-day vol1" "Ruckmarsch" also villers bocage through the lense.

You have got to go during the anniversary week. The atmosphere is fantastic. It won't be that busy as its not a big anniversary year. Plenty of WWII vehicles on the roads and re-enactors (some dubious) will add to it all.

If you go off the beaten track to visit areas of importance you will avoid the tourists who stick to the usual places e.g. Beaches and St. mere Eglise.

No place like it. I love the place.

How long do you plan on going for? are you just visiting the beaches or also inland towards the Falaise pocket?
