R.I.P to the dead who died in the cold on Christmas day (Watch on the Rhine)

I visited the Watch on the Rhine Battlefields
just got back on the 21st.
seen some graves in the German cemetery that died on Christmas day and felt bad so went back the next day and laid flowers and some candles as i felt the German war cemetery was forgotten about sad.
well RIP to all who died on christmas or around christmas so many young deaths.

Did you visit any Allied cemeteries while you were there ? no doubt many British/US/Allied troops died on Christmas day also unfortunately

I want to visit Aachen and the Ardennes next year before Christmas.

My grandfather was involved in the Bulge in the north near Namur

Yes it is very sad and you don't realise how sad it is until you are there.
There was a lot of young soldiers graves there.
Each had stone had 3 names per side so 6 to one headstone.

I visited lot of memorials to the US troops as every major battle or museum has them dedicated to the US, I just felt a little sad like the Germans was forgotten about lots of young soles my age and younger. so i went back bought some candles and flowers they might still be there when u visit hopefully.
also no German Flag in the graveyard

The graves are north of Bastogne in Recogne next to Foy.

yeah i visited for 10 days from 11th-21st was a great trip. also went to Koln and Monschau they was nice.
Ahh was he, did he pass any items onto you? did he survive i hope so.

I plan to go back hopefully when it snows get a nice feel of the battle i got heavy fog for 2 days then the weather got better

this is in the north around Malmedy. i loved the fog

I was in Stalingrad this summer and saw this "battlefield art" candle holder dated christmas day 1942 being recovered from a German bunker. One of the saddest things I have ever seen come out of the ground, particularly knowing that most if not all of those who looked at this candle holder on christmas day 1942 probably never saw their homeland again.

Thanks guys it was me and my wife i'm 26 she's 21 we was both moved by the site before us
i will light a candle every year for them as it was touching being there
i think the gravestones really makes it a reality that so many young died in battle.

Ahh this is one more sad story, makes you think how short life is.
so far from home but still had hope of seeing their families

i missed one grave i put a flower on.
i pick one grave at random then my wife did.
then the last we wanted one with unidentified soldiers on that is these

Thank you for doing this. I think too often many people within the world, cannot see the opposing side of any conflict as people. Especially with the Second World War and even the First to one degree.
