    German reenactor badge question

If there is a better forum to ask this, please let me know and I will move it.

As a German reenactor, I am wondering how common it was for lower enlisted personnel to wear badges on field tunics. Was it relatively uncommon, even split, or common? I know officers wore their bling--it's evident from the pictures--- but the average Landser or SS-Mann, did they wear their badges/awards in the field or no? Appreciate any opinions on this!

    Medals/Badges

You have presented a good question. The German veterans I have discussed this
with were emphatic in saying they did not wear their medals and badges in combat
or for the most part neither when in the field. Those who had ribbons wore them
during these times. It's my theory that many of the photos we see of landsers in
the field/combat wearing medals/badges are taking part in photo ops. They did
wear their medals/badges at formal formations, as directed by their officers.

Especially in Russian combat theaters, it is useful to remember the Russians referred
to the German troops--at least at first--as "Christmas Trees".
