As stated in the article these boat are well know to KM uboat history enthusiasts, at some point there even was a "effort" to save the remains of these uboats and make some kind of display/museum around them...but PC and the exorbitant amount of mony it will take to just "rescue" the hulls...just went up in smoke.

If we take in consideration that the only surviving type XXI Uboat which is in display in Germany is NOT an original WW2 configuration boat...the boat was raised after 1945 and rebuilt in a different configuration/oparational role..AKA..not combat..it was renamed "Wilhem Bauer". The type VIIC-42 also on display in germany was used after WW2 and some plate changes where made to her hull...but still is quite compleat to her original appearance and function at the end of WW2...unlike the XXI display boat.

The Type IXC rised from the sea in almost compleat form after it was sink in WW2, was chopped into pieces and put into display in the UK, a lot of naval historians and enthusiasts In the UK, Europe and USA tried to prevent the stupidity. ..but the desicion was already made and it was done.

Think U-505 is the most complear and "untouched" pre may 1945 uboat one can see in the world righ now, and one must applaud the effort to put it indoors to protect it and save it for future generations.

Would love to see the types XXI boats in the article in person and of course in their actual resting place, that would be a superb expefience!!

I have been on that island, back in 1989... ;-)

And at the same trip I was in Hamburg, taking a harbour cruise, and learned by the guide about those 3 subs.

Yes,u-boat is located in Suomenlinna island.Lots of warhistory in that island. It has fortress from late 1700´s and this fortress took part in many battles back in those days. Also took part for Crimean War in 1800´s.In WW2,it was Finnish U-boat fleet base and had garrison for coastal artillery.Nowdays there is U-boat and part of the Helsinki War Museum.Worth visit in Helsinki!

Picture from Suomenlinna 1943,has 2 bigger subs+1 smaller sub and 1 battleship in dock.

I was in Hamburg in October ... I didn't go to the site of the Elbe bunker because I read it had been buried and a container yard built over top of it. That's what it looks like on Google Maps, FWIW. Isn't this news about the three U-Boots rather old news? Like several years old?
