    BoB Dec 2014 70th

    Dear Forum members,

As most of you will know we are approaching the 70th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Bulge/Ardennenenoffensive.

To mark this event my local tourist association decided to set up some walks where the battle opened. Namely where the 277th Volks grenadier Divsion attacked the US 99th Inf. Div at 05:30 on December 16 1944. This is the so called Hollerather Knie on what is now the B265 and was then called the International Highway by the US forces. See this link for one website; http://hollerath.com/ here for the press coverage; http://www.rundschau-online.de/eifel...,29313914.html

The Hotel Hollerather Hof have a small militaria exhhibition, and other local facilities do too.

On Monday the 15th at the Hotel Schroeder at Loesheimergraben there will be a talk on the Air War over the Bulge, plus a session from the authority that licence use of metal detectors in the area. Sadly I cannot go as I have a business trip to Austria

Finally tomorrow there will be a US Army colour party laying wreaths at local memorials in the Belgian Ardenne.

This anniversary had not crossed my mind TBH, as a Brit I always remember the 7th Dec this time of year. To us the 'BoB' means the Battle of Britain. Hope all goes well nevertheless, especially on what will probably be the 'last' big anniversary for these Vets. Thanks for mentioning it

        We went yesterday.
Lots of visitors and reenactors, but sadly no veterans like 10 years agon in 2004 (a lot of Easy compagny were there then).
Weather was nice:cold, snowboard on the fields and an open sky.
There was a lot to do, so we had to pick out some stuff. Also because of the mass traffic jam...Bastogne is For sure an important crossroads, still today.

My son, together with the crew of a M5 Stuart, which got stuck next to the road without gasoline...it weren't the Germans this time who got out of fuel
