    B-17 POW photo and Story

Friend of mines Dad. Shot down by flak over Merseburg in September 1944. Dad was a radio operator. After being shot down, all of his crew survived and were captured. His leg was broken and another crewman had to wheel him around on a bike, a wagon, etc. as they were taken into custody and transferred to camps. The Germans did not fix his leg and it was not fully tended to until a British doctor in a camp set it two weeks after he was injured. They were liberated by the Russians several months later. Pictures are from original pilots personal photos, not dads group. Photo of crashed B-17 is another plane from his dads group shot down that day.
