Very interesting indeed and understandable after all they, too were just humans. I always wondered how they fought on at such odds and losses. The fight was just getting kicks and punches in 1944/45 and occasionally giving a jab back. Desperate bravery seemed to have replaced the ideological audacity of most men in 1944/45. The uniform was on the one hand an obligation to be some kind of a soldier role model to your fellows in arms and on the other hand it was a threat if you wanted to surrrender. I believe at this stage of war everyone knew it was the end game and most just wanted to survive or some gave up hope and fought on until death as they saw no future.
