    Normandy/German perspective. What to see?

Hi guys, I'm planning a trip to Normandy. I do not have much time. Maybe 3 to 4 days only.
I am very much interested in touring the German "side" of Normandy. The German perspective. I want to visit the battlefields which German soldiers occupied and fought on. Please give me some advice. Since I only have 3 or 4 days what are the major ones?
    Thank you

Will you be there for the 70s anniversary next week, or later?

      Anyway I suggest:

      - Hill 112 just south of Caen, changed hands several times.

      - Abbey Ardenne just west of Caen, Div. Headquarter of 12.ss Panzerdivision HJ

      - the village of Rots, where some of the most famouos pics of normandy were taken:

      - the Germany cemetary of La Gambe

      - Villers Bocage

      - Tilly sur Seulles, west of Caen, changed Hands 23 times

      - "Dead mans Corner" and Museum, near Carentan

      - WN 62 at Omaha beach

      - Trun and Falaise, for the "Stalingrad in Normandie", the pocket of Falaise, and Mont Ormel

Hi Gran Sasso, thank you very much for your information. It's really useful. I have read so many German soldier memoirs (over 14 years) who foungt in Normandy, but I cannot remember the places they were in, so your info is very helpful. Unfortunately, I am unable to go to Normandy for the 70s anniversary next week. I will go later. Have you been to Normandy? How many days did you get to spend to see most of the places on your list?

Better you go later, it will be a mess... I was there for the 50s anniversary, and even back then it was overcrouded, roads blocked cause of VIPs, etc.

So enjoy the calm Normandie after.

I was there so far app. 10 times, usually I spend 4 days to one week, is really enough.

Visit some museums, but choose wisely... Some are a waste of time and Money.

PS: You can also visit "Barkmann´s corner":

Thanks for the advice. Yes, I will only have about 4 days. So I mostly want to visit the places where 12SS and Leibstandarte AH and Das Reich fought in.
I heard some people on the internet say Barkmann's Corner is an exaggeration. But I don't know much about it. I spoke to Herr Ernst Barkmann about 8 or 9 years ago on the phone, but I never discussed it with him.

              Josh,

As mentioned, definitely visit the military cemetery at La Cambe. A very moving experience (plus Wittmann and crew's graves are there). There are other German cemeteries, but La Cambe is the most conveniently located.

              Best,
              Greg

Thanks guys, I will visit these. La Cambe sounds like a must.
Has anyone visited the battle sites of St Lo, Argentan and Falaise? Are these worth a visit?

Falaise musuem has closed long ago, and City is rebuilt (same for St.Lo, which was 95% destroyed), hard to find historic spots.
But visit the TIGER I at Vimoutiers, but check before if ist there, there were rumors of a Restauration.

The two small museums in St Marie du Mont at opposite ends of the town square are a must as well. My advice is to hire a car, a GPS and a good battlefield guide. Oh and St Marcouf battery as well.

This one will have Cameron, Merkel, Obama AND Putin - it's bound to have every hanger on, journalist and security person in the northern hemisphere present.

I think it would be prefferable to do it at a quiet time to allow a pause to reflect in the cemeteries and on the deserted beaches.

I'd recommend the Airborne museum, St Mere Eglise, Avranches and Caen.

I put some photos from my trip here :

How much is a good battle field guide per day?

Thanks Helden. You say to visit Caen. But wasn't it completely destroyed and thus not much to see anymore? I only have 3 to 4 days...
