    Russia marks 70 years since end of Leningrad siege

    Russian President Vladimir Putin - a Leningrad native whose mother survived the horrors of the blockade and whose elder brother perished because of hunger - took part in all of the St. Petersburg events on Monday.

    Putin laid a wreath at the Motherland monument in Piskaryovskoe Memorial Cemetery, the main resting place for victims of the siege.
    (I also remember reading years ago in Glantz's book that Putin's Father fought under Zhukov along the Volkhov).

    There are also links to documentaries and archive pictures.

    In addition to the above there was also a video clip on RT.com the other day showing fairly large scale re-enactment of a tank and infantry battle (I think one tiger and a marder) along with hordes of Wehrmacht and Red Army watched by a good few hundred spectators but the clip seems to be gone now.
