IĀ“came across a really weird story (sorry German again) but I can depict the gist:
the 13. Brit. para btl. used specially trained dogs in combat by dropping them with the paras over enemy territory. They were trained at war dog Training School in Hertfordshire since 1941. After adjusting them to battle noise and parachuting, they were in action on D-Day used f.e. as early warning sentries, minefield detectors, combat dogs... and have saved quite a few lives by doing so. Bing was one of the dog heroes with high awards and survived the war and there is a museum in Duxford honoring this dog. There even is a special animal merit medal ( Dickin medal).
Crazy story.
