Gabardine Visor; how to get a nice overhang ?

Hi together,
I just ordered a brand new WH Infantry Gabardine Visor in Erel style. It's made in Germany.

I know how to alter a wool top with hot water and steam.
But have no idea how to alter gabardine.
When removing the steel wire it still has a stiff shape.
I dont want a crusher shape, but would like to achieve a nice rounded overhang on the sides and rear.

Please dont tell me now constant wearing or staying in the rain will make the trick.
I'm sure there are better and quicker tricks.

Any advice is very welcome.

It depends on what the padding is,if its foam rubber then it will keep its shape unless removed.John
