    Panzer Lehr Living History

    Hey guys,

I just want to make sure I'm right with this particular issue.
I am in a living history group which portray Panzer Lehr 901.
As you know Panzer Lehr was fully motorised.

The bulk of our members are grenadiers of course and I just wanted to check would they receive the Infantry Assault Badge in Bronze or the Panzer Badge in Bronze?

We go with the Infantry assault badge but it has often been debated so wanted to check from you guys.

    Cheers

From 'The awards of the Heer',the infantry assault badge in bronze was instituted on the 1.June 1940 for the motorised units of infantry divisions(but not for panzergrenadiere which were part of panzer divs; and Pzgren.divs.They were eligible for the panzer assault badge in bronze) the panzer assault badge in bronze was awarded to panzergrenadierregimenter or motor cycle rifle battallions and armoured reconnaissance units.John

Well it frankly depends on what battalion within Panzergrenadier-Lehr Regiment 901 you are portraying. The first battalions in both 901 and 902 were armored, meaning they rode in half-tracks, and as such would have been awarded the Panzer Assault Badge in bronze. The other battalions other than the first were only motorized, meaning they rode in trucks, and as such would have been awarded the Infantry Assault Badge in Bronze.

So, both would have been seen within each regiment, so both are correct, but like I said, it depends on what battalion you are portraying.

      Hope this helps.

Thank you for the replies guys.
We portray the 901 so it would seem the Panzer Badge in Bronze is the correct.
Just wanted to check here to get a more clear view.

        Thanks again guys
