Next up is a JU 88
And that one is in even better condition than this He 111.
65 years on the bottom of the drinking water reservoir in Trondheim has only damaged the magnesium brackets that held the engines.
You will all be amazed when this Ju 88 from KG 30 will resurface.Over 30.000 photos from German photo albums, related to Norway

Tor,
Thanks for the thread its great, how did they locate it? Was it through records or did somebody find it whilst diving??
I am also aware that recently in Fiji that a chap who was living on the bread line, when hunting inthe jungle to provide food for his family. Discovered a WWII Cobra {?} that had crashed and the pilot was still in it..
As least his family after 60+ years will be able to remove him from the M.I.A listing.Regards

They both went down in 1940, when the ice got bad and there was no possibility to save them.
Still there are more planes down there. The ownership to planes from WW2 are given to the authorothies. The two planes that are rescued now will be given to Germany. Since it's the Berlin Technical Museum who pays for the salvage.Over 30.000 photos from German photo albums, related to Norway

Getting aircraft out of lakes (fjords usually) Is quite a good way to get yourself a nice airframe for a restoration. The thing with these sought of operation is the people who are recovering the aircraft usually have alot of money for rebuilds so even if there is not much to be salvaged of the plane for rebuilding then they still have enough money to get parts made. A recent success story was a ju88 out of a fjord in norway, the restoration of that has turned out very nicely (cant find link), but finding a 111 like that is very good to see
