Reproduction items you should NOT buy....who can you warn us about?

Maybe this thread can be of service to new and old reenactors

Repros to stay away from.... hmmmmm like the banana colored US gear that I see periodically... or old Rocket Camo sold as real SS camo...!

These are currently sold by Military Tour, in the German WWII section:
GERMAN WWII LEATHER ENLISTED MANS BELT
    AND SS ALUMINUM BUCKLE SET
    WW11 Reproduction Price : $49.95 Part #G-28 & G69

GERMAN WWII LEATHER ENLISTED MANS BELT AND HEER ARMY ALUMINUM BUCKLE SET
    WW11 Reproduction Price : $49.95 part #G-28 & G-70
...worst crap ever....OK, the belt is not bad, but the buckle catch is GLUED to the buckle...not cast as part of the buckle, but GLUED, and not even JB Weld! The first time it was worn under a normal combat load-POP- out it came. I plan to call them and see if satisfaction can be had, and while I am at it I will hammer them about the "supposed" red enameled steel canteen that they did have on the site. Maybe they already found it to be a poison pill? A few places are selling these, and they all seem to come with a 7/8ths scale 1 liter field flask felt cover, complete with reinforcements at the neck and backside. They smell of oil based paint and are nowhere near having an enameled finish, but rather a matte finish, stinking of paint odors. Drink from it...really... IMA still has one up and the pictures are of the like-same item.
Another place to avoid for German camo is TRIDENT MILITARY, in the US. The splinter camo zelts and camo M-40 style tunics smell of creosote, and the aluminum and steel buttons arrive corroded/rusted, marking the garments with white rings or rust spots. They are made in India or Pakistan, and must have been sitting in dank and damp storage containers for awhile, or the trident warehouse is horrid place. Probably why they were on sale. Lousy stuff, so stick with the reputable dealers.

Oh, the zelts cleaned up fairly well, and I removed, tumbled, sealed, and re-stitched the buttons...the jackets...no one wants them..

Thanks for your time, and if my warning helps, or reminds you of another crummy dealer, add your two cents worth!
    Mike
