    It is a great stupidity to scrap those old ships! This happens always that way - either find gazillions to preserve and keep it afloat, or scrap it. Lots of historical hulls were lost that way through the years! Why it is never considered the option - just tow it ashore, weld the hatches and leave it! It will deteriorate, but after 10, 50 or 100 years a wealthier and more technically advanced society may find the will and funds to restore it more or less.
