Bomben auf Engeland has origin from WWI???

    Hey folks,

I apologize in advance for posting this rather off-topic question here. None of the other areas of the forum seems appropriate for my question either.

I got into a debate with a fellow who claimed "Bomben auf Engeland" had its root as a WWI song. I was taken aback because I always thought it's written for the Luftwaffe shortly before the Battle of Britain. I rebutted with the fact the composer Norbert Schultze was born in 1911 so it couldn't possibly have its origin in WWI. This fellow said there were several variants of the song (with very different lyrics, I have to assume) in WWI, and that Norbert Schultze just adapted from it. Now, I know songs such as "SA Marschiert" and "Heia Safari" were either adapted from WWI songs or shared the same title. In my very large archive of German military tunes, I haven't come across a single one that sounds close to it. I really doubt "Bomben auf Engeland" is one of those songs.

Can anyone chime in with links or information that will back either of our opinions up?

I wonder if your friend is thinking of 'Wir fahren gegen England'? That was a WWI song that had it's melody rewritten by Herms Niel. I'm sure that Bomben auf England was strictly WWII.
