    American military biographical reference

    Article link see:

I was one among a dozen or so volunteer biographical researchers for this reference site over a period of about 3 years. I contributed roughly 1800 individual profiles for deceased or fallen US airmen from WWI-Present.

TWS covers airmen, marines, army, navy, coast guard and law enforcement, living and dead. It includes a discussion forum used by perhaps 5% of membership.

Major militaria value beyond remembrances is a reasonably complete catalogue of uniforms and equipment throughout the generations as used by serving personnel, and also the possibility of tracing hard-to-find individual service records to authenticate named artitacts or groupings.

It appears they are now planning to expand to the UK.

    Excerpt:

"THEY are soldiers, sailors and airmen who died serving their country, some hundreds of years apart but whose stories sit alongside side each other in the world’s biggest war memorial.

From the lost soldiers of Vietnam to US troops who died in Afghanistan, the online roll of honour created by Scots engineer Brian Foster has been opened for the first time for the public to see.
More than 100,000 US servicemen and women appear in the poignant and often uplifting tributes by family and friends accompanied by pictures – many taken on the front line.

Brian, from Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire, used his own money to set up a... site 10 years ago called TogetherWeServed.com after working alongside the US military for many years..."
