Tony I agree. One thing I have always said is that history repeats itself. With all this anti nazi sentiment and draconian laws against saying anything positive about the subject, all it's doing is adding more and more credence to their cause. Destroying graves is the lowest form of this expression. Could you imagine the outrage at removing Karl Marx's grave in London? Hitler didn't even stoop this low, he even did the opposite by returning to France in 1940 the body of the Duke of Reichstadt (?) (Napoleon's son) at France's request so he could be properly honored.

In reality, the people who live there are sick to their high back teeth of "Tourists" and "Sycophants" taking rubbings of gravestones and hands full of earth, asking "did you know the Hitlers" .......

Well Gary, when I went there for a visit that wasn't the sentiment I saw. They seemed to really like all the money that the thousands of "tourists" brought.

Sorry mate, and I hate to say it, you are talking complete and utter garbage here. I have visited hiitorical sites all over Europe and do you think it is ok to visit Waterloo and think Wellington was great, the Ardennes and worship the Yanks who fought there? I am an historian and your attitude does little to enhance history.

Berchtesgaden flourishes on its hsitory of AH and Linz I am sure is no different. Perhaps we should demolish the Kelhsteinhaus because i visited as i am interested in AH, not a worshipper, just an historian.

I think the stones are recycled too if they are thick enough to be engraved again.
I am not sure if this is what happened in this case or not.
I think that kinda thing has gone on for eons and will continue. After the next big war no one will care about the last two big ones.

Well, I must say that I am very relieved that I managed to visit most of the famous graves recently. Hitler's parents grave was very special for me and took some nice pictures with me in the "Now and Then" scene. Rommel's tomb was also very sombering for me and to know that I was about 2 metres away from the great man is something I wont forget. Cant see that been levelled soon because the grave site is very well cared for and at least the town honours him
