Well, I would think that the news agency would send an investigator to see if there was first any possibility that there was any chance that the story was true. For example, was Hitler's unit stationed near there in reality? His paybook should show whether he took leave around that time. etc.
I doubt that there is much chance of this being true but it would be interesting to hear of an investigation.
