Just took a half hour ride in the B-17 "9-0-9" Wednesday and it was worth the $425 price. It gives one a sobering appreciation for a job where there was no place to hide from enemy fire...

I saw the same plane here last summer (did not go on the ride, though). I was a little disappointed to find out that it was a replica (the original was scrapped)- but it was still great to see a B-17 up close (inside and out).

Been there done that....a few years ago thou. My experience was on the CAF B-17G "texas Raiders" warbird. This was back in 2001 +/- one year. Anyways mine cost $350 at the time. Even $425 today is still worth every penny! I was lucky for a few months after my flight, the FAA grounded ALL flying B-17s for main wing spar joint inspection(where the wings attach) for corrosion.
This B-17 failed the inspection & was grounded till repairs were made. She was out of service for years. Only been flying again the last two years. In the preflight meeting the pilot asked if any of us passengers wanted to fly over our houses provided we only live within 15-20 miles from the airport. I called my wife & kids...told em to get outside cause flyin over in a few minutes. Had to point the way for the pilot (you can't here NOTHING other than wind & engine roar from more than 2 feet away from who your hollering at!) Anyways i stood in the cockpit over the pilots shoulder pointing the way. You could explore most of the plane while in flight. All except for the ball turret (too fat to get in anyway) & the tail past the waist gunners postions were off limits. The veiw for the top turret is awe-inspiring.
Would i do it again HELL YA. But in a B-24, or B-25 a ride in a two seat P-51 is a little expensive for me!!
