On a clear day, the view from the Eagle's Nest is breathtaking. The day we were there in October was crystal clear and it seems like the whole world was at our feet. I can see why Hitler suffered from megalomania because, as I stood there on top of the world, I was ready to volunteer for the Russian Front - NOT!

I stayed at the Tuerken in 2008 for a week. Walked all over the mountain and loved the site of the Mooslahnerkopf. Even my wife walked down to it.

Just hope they don`t demolish the place. Great atmosphere in there and I was able to visit the ruins of the Berghof daily.

The picture of the man with the sythe now hanging in the Tuerken, supposedly from the Berghof according to Frau Scharfenberg, the owner.

I know how you feel. I have been 4 times now and can`t get enough of the place. I walked down from the Eagles nest to the visitor centre last time I went. Even walking down makes you realise what a magnificent acheivement the building on top of Kehlstein really was and in the timescale makes it all the more impressive. So pleased it wasn`t destroyed after the war.

Sadly, Frau Ingrid Scharfenberg, owner of the Hotel zum Tuerken on the Obersalzberg, passed away on February 17.

As to the future of the hotel ... who knows? There is no-one currently there to take over and run the hotel.

I am really sorry to hear that. I thought something was up as I emailed the Hotel to try and book up for later this year.

I confess to taking a strong liking for Frau Scharfenburg and found her a very interesting lady to talk to.

I just hope the hotel remains open

                  Very sad news indeed.
