Operation Anthropoid, the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich

Here are some pictures of the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius in Prague. This is where the Czech parachutists Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš and five others, that killed Reinhard Heydrich, died.<O</O
My wife and I were visiting our oldest daughter who is teaching English there now and she lived very close by. I was not able to get to the street corner where the assassination of Heydrich took place.<O</O
Here is a link with more details on this story,<O</O

First is the memorial plaque outside on the window to the crypt where they tried to flood them out.

There was a small museum and display before you entered the crypt.

Looking down the crypt with busts for the other 5 men, LT Adolf Opalka
                    Warrant officer Josef Valcik
                    Sgt. Josef Bublik
                    Sgt. Jan Hruby
and Sgt. Jaroslav Svarc that fought to the end and took their own lives rather than surrendering.

Sorry, I forgot to get a picture of the outside of the church but you can find one online.

Excellent images, it seems the displays and exhibits have been improved since visiting some years ago. Great history

The hole in the wall, is that where they were trying to dig into the sewer system but didn't get to finish it?

I visited there 5 years ago. A very atmospheric place.

It is well-known that Benes figured that this mission would result in reprisals from the Germans, which he then cynically used as an excuse to engage in a pogrom against the Sudeten Germans in 1945, which resulted in the killing of some 250,000 ethnic Germans and the expropriation of all their land and possessions, as well as the forced expulsion of millions more. Incidentally, the Allied leaders knew full well of this plan at Yalta, yet did nothing to guarantee the safety of these Germans. Another case of cynical, blatant racism by the Allies.
