Dont know if this is a hat badge or? but the citadel has quite a history....rather than being brief, you can read all you want here;http://www.citadel.edu/citadel-history/
Then go to see if you can locate the period of the badge or plate whichever it is, and then you may find the value....cant be done without a back shot, Its a military school with quite the history....cheers

An e mail to the school addressed to the historical department , will likely , when answered, tell the period , i'd guess its from the 40s or possibly the 50's. Civil war period items were many times different from the modern hat insignia in the way they were manufactured, but let us know when you have an answer.

            Hi,
I finally got a reply. This design was introduced at the start of the 20th century and continued unaltered except for a brief change to a different pattern between the years 1932 ---- 1937 thus making it difficult to pin down exactly when it was made.

              Franco,
it is likely modern production - prob. from the 1980's up to today. And it may never have been worn unless worn very recently since it is not "blitzed" down - no details have been rubbed smooth over time from frequent brasso shinings.

Not worth much at all. The older ones may be worth something, but not many people at all collect them unless they are really really old and I've never seen any that would fit that category.

By looking at the pictures I would be VERY surprised if that shared theory of the badge being a product of the 80ties or even younger would be accurate.

And nothing is without value - there is a market for everything out there.
