I know you had a great time there...why don't you share your story about the Governer General?

Ah yes, had a nice chat with Her Excellency after wandering into the VIP-only room at the after-parade reception. I went in to find my Dad who was chatting with some old army friends and I soon joined in the conversation. Next thing I know a bunch of Aides-de-Camp flood the room and in behind them walks the G-G and the Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff. Oh well, I thought, too late now, and soon found myself in the receiving line trading pleasantries with our Head of State.

Originally posted by Tony FarrellNice pics Geoff. It certainly looks like you had better weather than I did at the Queen's Lancashire Regiment's Beating of the Retreat at Fulwood Barracks, Preston last saturday (bloody freezing it was). Question: I thought the Canadian paras had been disbanded?
As for your question about Canadian paras. The Canadian Airborne Regiment was disbanded after the Somalia scandal (don't get me started on that one). However, the Canadian Forces, deciding that we still needed parachute-capable troops (beyond JTF-2), went back to the system that existed during most of the 1950's (the CAR being formed in 1968). That system was, and is today, that every 3rd battalion of the three regular infantry regiments (so, 3 RCR, 3 PPCLI, and 3 R22eR) has a para company. This means we have pretty close to a full battalion of paras spread out amongst the three regiments, plus a reservist para coy with the Queen's Own Rifles. This is still pretty close to what we had with the CAR, which was divided into 3 Commandos - each affiliated with one of the regiments (1CDO was Vandoos, 2CDO was PPCLI, and 3CDO was RCR). These Commandos were always just over company strength so not much has changed, really.

Geoff Beautiful Photo's. It's nice to be able to be on a parade where your Father gets honoured. Love the "Hat Badge"
Not trying to start anything but disbanding the CAR was a case of shoting the horse to get rid of the fleas!
I am glad you showed the dipping of the colors, I was positive that, That's the only time your colors - read National Flag - is sup[posed to touch the ground. I am having an argument with the Town Office here, because I watched 1 of there employee's drag the flag over the ground when opening the Info Office, When I politelly told them that, that was being disrespectful to the flag, they complained to the Office that I was harassing them. Go fiqure!
Anyways thanks for the Photo's
