Very interesting, and it is nice to see that the excavation is being done by archeologists who are properly analysing the discoveries, and not by Volksbund workers with a bulldozer.

I am glad that these men have been found, IDed, and provided a proper burial. I just think the fact that the German government is so eager to put their past behind them that they do not even want to give their men a proper tribute is just shameful.

As far as battlefield preservation goes, I know it sucks but civilization moves on. Just think of how many events and etc took place on that land before... and will occur well after. If we saved every scrap of land where there was an interesting event, there would be no place for us to live.

I am happy that the govt cares enough to document and catalog what they found, rather than just steam roll over it all, as is the case 90% of the time.

True, but it's just not clean to build on top of a place where so many people where killed, not only in one world war but in two world wars. It's just like the man who found the remains of two german soldiers from WW2 in his backyard. What does he do? Throws the remains in the trash and then puts up a swimming pool.

It is sad, that Germany kinda turns a blind eye to things like this.

One of the other fourm members was telling me about and it was in the news paper in france or italy. I think it was his neighbor or friend who found out, what he did. If I run across the article, I will post it.

However, that is just down right disrespectful and I am sure the two soldiers had families that wonder what happen to them.
