    Time Team D Day special

Anyone else see the Time Team D Day special program?

They may be good archaeologists and were very enthusiastic but WWII battlefield archaeologists they are not. Their 'expert', the Major from the D & D regiment wants a slap on the wrist for one particular howler although at least he knew what German barbedwire looks like.

For anyone who's wondering what i'm babbling on about here's a link.

Hi Simon, I watched the programme (in fact, it is my favourite TV programme) and I enjoyed it. I cannot recall any crass errors on the TV, but on the website last week the High speed drum Bren mags were described as being Russian but I see this has now been corrected

        Cheers, Ade.

The little faux pas the good major made was in identifying some bits of bakelite as being bits of radio equipment. True he had a battery there (BTW, the same sort and in the same condition as the ones i find up here) but the bakelite bits, also stamped 1941 which he pointed out was a 'skin decontamination agent' case, part of a soldiers gas kit and quite surplus to requirement and thus often to be found chucked away.

And what was with the Russian AT gun? was it a captured Russian 7.62cm PAK 39(r) there as the graphic showed? or a 7.5cm PAK 40 as they were talking about a 75mm gun?

Bah! they should have hired me!

And it's my favourite program too Adrian. I really miss it. Have to rely on the discovery channel and downloading it from newsgroups these days

Hi Simon, yes the graphics for the A/T gun were interesting I had forgot about that.

            Cheers, Ade.

              Help me out here Simon!

Do you download the program ? Do you know where it is possible to find it.

Guess it will take some months before it's on here in Norway.

i thought it was fairly cool! id seen the one on the b17 and the hurricane and they did them pretty well to!but the gun looked like a british 6 pounder to be honest! though seeing the bottom of the unfinished bunker was well cool!!!!
good none the less though i am guilty of looking for mistakes they made!!
