    Hitler's Cars

I saw one of Hitler's Mercedes-Benz convertibles in a car museum in Galveston Texas well over 20 years ago, I understand it was sold to another museum near Las Vegas Nevada. The owner said that he had a document showing that the car was purchased from Mercedes-Benz personally by Hitler.
I saw on the History Channel that Hitler purchased 44 Mercedes-Benz cars for his personal or Nazi Party use.
My question is how many are still in existence and how many of you have seen actual documented Hitler cars?

Quite a few were scrapped. Wasn't one used by a US General postwar for a while?

One was put on display at the Donington car museum along with Mussolinis Alfa Romeo some years ago. Fortunately i was able to sit in the beast. Beautiful machine. What amazed me was the thickness of the glass on the side windows and how heavy the doors were. Certainly an experience I won`t forget

The one I saw in Galveston was a 1936 model if I am not mistaken. One of the museum curator's said that Hitler had purchased this one for Eva Braun but I thought that didn't make sense as Hitler kept her under wraps for the most part.

I believe the Ottawa vehicle came from Goering's motor pool.

Used to be one here in MN a long time ago but has since moved. A friend of mine has stood on the platform where Hitler would stand during parades. Sepp Dietrich's Mercedes is up here still to this day I believe. I got to see its Nazi eagle hood ornament (was taken off so the public wasn't offended if I remember).

Hitler's Racing Car Set to Become the Most Expensive Car Ever Sold at Auction
The 1939 Auto Union D-Type, thought to be one of only two in existence, was created by Ferdinand Porsche after a personal request from Hitler. The German dictator wanted the car as a propaganda tool to show off the technological superiority of the Third Reich. The car, one of the fastest of its time, has 485 horse-power and a maximum speed of 186mph and is going to be auctioned by Christie's in February in Paris. http://www.autospies.com/news/Hitler...Auction-10405/

Sure man. Tojo had a Benz 770 I think also. Lost the image I had. Marseilles had his OTTO, & his C/O Neumann had an intereting staff car, but the site with the images seems to be having issues.

Been awhile since I've rolled through your neck of the woods. Sold art in Decatur yrs ago.

Not sure what Stalin rode in, he did get a German transport plane I seem to recall. JU 352.

                    JU 352
At least one was captured by Soviet forces and Stalin used one for his personal aircraft. About 45 were built total before the war caused the project to be abandoned. http://www.oldmodelkits.com/index.ph...htext=hercules

Is that a negative reversal or is the steering wheel on the wrong side, like in English-made cars?

Don't go there chum. us limeys' can't help it if all you guys are screwed up! Think about it, most road race tracks are clockwise you want your butt to hit the apex. Civilised people drive on the left side of the road (except Italians, they drive on both sides!) and further, a Gentleman rides his horse on the left so he can fire his gun right handed not twist round and plug the guy passing in the back! Heathens!

                              Hoss

ps, lefties are shifty types, don't trust em!!!
