Not so little known IMO, its a well known disaster! Many lessons were learned, particularly the devestating potency of the S Boote !

Yes, I guess it's better known to us in the UK than to those in the USA, unless they were personally affected by it at the time.

For those who may be interested 'The Forgotten Dead' by Ken Small is a brilliant book and tells all about his stuggle against 'red tape' to salvage the Sherman tank as a memorial to those who died.
