Hardwick Hall Parachute Regt annual service

Hi Guys, two weeks ago today I attended the annual Parachute Regt Veterans service and reunion at the former WW2 Airborne Forces depot at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire. This year was special as the bronze plaque which comemmorates the WW2 role of the Hall and the men who served there was being moved to a more prominent position after being restored. The plaque can now be seen in the main lawned area in front of the Hall where all visitors will see it as they enter the grounds.

    Cheers, Ade.

      Text reads:

"Besides the lakes west of Hardwich Hall there was an Army camp where in 1941 early pioneers of the Briitsh Airborne forces formed the 1st Parachute Brigade".

"For the remainder of the war Hardwich was the depot and school of the Airborne Forces where volunteers from Britian and her Allies recieved specialised training to form the British Airborne Divisions and other special operations units".

"Remember with gratitude those who passed through these grounds and gave their lives so that we now may enjoy the beauty and peace of this land"
