    Schokakola tin, before and after

Though i'd show you the excellent results a frined of mine had with using Evaporust on a Shokakola tin he found this summer

first, two photos of the tin as found, it was partly protected by a rock ledge so had survived quite well in the open. Next to it is a modern tin for comparison (kind of cool we had some modern shokakola with us that day and just happened to find an original tin.)

Very interesting thread Simon. I especially like the fact that it's an early war tin.

Slightly off topic but what does shokakola taste like?

        Cheers

Like dark chocolate, but a little better. I buy one of these once or twice a month. If you want a pack drop me a line...

Yes, like dark chocolate with a slight hint of coffee. Quite nice, definitely a must have item on hiking trips for the historically aware!

It's quite interesting as well that this is an early war tin as it was eaten\used in early 1945.

I've used Evaporust before, it does an exceptional job as seen here. How long were these soaked?

Hi there - "Simon's friend" here - I soaked it for just under 24 hours.

That might actually have been a bit too long as the top edge which had been the most exposed started to crumble when I took it out, but I'm still very pleased with the end results.

The tin was closed when found and the inside still has a lot of its shiny "lacquered" metal finish as well. Which is nice.

                Cheerio,

                Nigel.
