That's a good point. I imagine it would have to be a spontaneous uprising in which the crew overpowered the captain and any other officers who resisted. Given the tight quarters and constant movement of people, there would probably be very little opportunity to conspire and plan.Originally posted by DennyB View Post
It's kind of amazing that nothing like this did seem to have happened during 1944 and onward, since going on a U-boat patrol was essentially a suicide mission (and the odds of even taking an Allied ship with you were slim).Comment

Some : ended up in front of a firing-squad, lost their rank and died in action, were transferred to the eastern front.

On January 26, 1944, Oblt. z.S. Oskar Kusch was condemned to death by a military tribunal and executed on May 12, 1944, after being denounced by his former IWO for alleged "Wehrkraftzersetzung" (sedition and defeatism).
Kusch was one of only two U-boat commanders to be sentenced to death by German authorities, the other being Heinz Hirsacker of U-572 who was convicted of cowardice and committed suicide on April 24, 1943, shortly before his scheduled execution.Comment
