    Auschwitz foto project

    Grettings Gentleman

    I need some information when it is the best time under the year to visit Auschwitz, as I will photograph a lot for my new photo project.

    Does anyone know during which month it is at least visitors

    if you drive a car can you park outside the camp, so you dont need to carry all the equipment

    its big enough to get an empty shot at peak season. the kz functioned in all seasons of the war-so anytime will be in ordnung.

        Hi

        I went in March and it was ok still people about,there where more in the main camp than in bikeanau where still you can find yourself alone !! as its a huge place and there are plenty of places to explore off the beaten track within the camp still today but would not advise in the winter as its real cold and you can not see everything as covered in snow !! and the exteme heat in the summer so either early in the year (march/april) or later (sept/oct) would be my recomendation.

          I have been in summer and also in January, I would definatly say go in Winter and you can really appreciate how terrible the conditions would have been in the extreme cold and snow you get in Poland. Made my photographs very atmospheric as well as less tourists and school groups around.

            I've also been during the winter. The snow gives a very lasting impact to Birkenau. The camp was virtually empty when I saw it.

                  I've been twice, both times in June, both times boiling hot. I arrived at each site at opening time, 8am, and there was hardly anyone about anywhere at that time, so my advice is get there early before the tours start.

                          Conditons were bad in winter, and also in the summer, when there was intense heat and humidity. For many reasons, this would be especially so in the period before 1943 when hygenic conditions were disastrous. I had the chance to talk at length with some people who were prisioners there, in one case, an individual who was in the camp from mid-1942 to the beginning of 1945. He said conditions and disease in summer 1942 were indescribeable.
