Thanks for posting this Marco, i have a neighbor who was there although he may have been wounded before the river crossing (I can't remember) . He's in great shape, I'll have him over and show this to him.

As usual you have done a super job covering and photographing historic events like this and keeping the memory alive by doing so. Unfortunately there are less and less veterans attending such occasions each year but we should never forget the courage, service and sacrifices made by both sides.

Thanks to all for the kind words. I try to go everywhere during Cassino celebrations, but is not easy for my job.
The ceremony on the Rapido River started in the little square of St. Angelo with flowers to 36th Infantry Division "Texas" Memorial and after directly on the river, very close to the point where, 20 january 1944, american boys try to jump the Rapido.

The GJ veteran was with 100th GJR and the paratrooper (not Fries) with the badge on his cap was in the FJR.3
