Trip to Channel Island(s) Question please!

Which of the famous Channel Islands would be most accessible and interesting from a WWII standpoint for a day trip from Normandy? I know there are ferries that go round trip from various points in Normandy to a few of the isles but which would be most advantageous for a single day jaunt?

I would say that Jersey is the one you want although i havent been in about 20 years or so i presume there is still some interesting stuff about....... apparently they were really well behaved when they were there queuing for bread with the locals etc. I beleive they must have had their hands in a few pies over there though, i found this at a little shop over here in the UK about 2 years ago.

We used to go to Jersey every year (1959-66) for our family holiday. The place was amazing with all the coastal fortifications untouched since W2. Some still had the guns in the coastal concrete bunkers, barbed wire etc, what a playground for a kid.
The German Underground Hospital was another must visit. I remember it well, the locals were always finding gear from the War. One incident particular sticks out in my mind, someone opened a large shed and it was full of German gear including over 500 helmets!!!
The last couple of years 65-66 some of the bunkers had been demolished and the coast line was being cleaned up.
Jersey was the main rallying point for the Germans not Guernsey.

Check out the Underground Hospital built by Russian prisoners. There used to be quick Hydro boat rides to and from La Havre etc I presume they still have them.

My choice would be Alderney, apart from some very intact Bunkers there are a number of Victorian Forts. The Island had several camps, including one named Sylt, supposedly the only Concentration camp on British soil. Although a very small island, IMO the best concerning the WW2 German occupation.

there is a quite good DVD available about the occupation of the Channel Islands.
It is available from Tomahawk Films, a UK company who also market many CD's of Third Reich music. The DVD is entitled "Channel Islands Occupied" and has a running length of 50 minutes, and incorporates original propaganda film with accounts from islanders recounting their experiences of the occupation.
On the same DVD, with a run time of 40 minutes, is a documentary called "Stars On The Landscape" which is a tour of the most important sites on view in the Channel Isles.
Essential viewing for a visitor to the islands!
