                IL-2 cockpit and identified pilot

IL-2 and identified pilot. His documents were with his body so he could be identified and his records as MIA updated. All pictures are from EnglishRussia website.

Very interesting photos. The state of preservation of the tail section and aft fuselage of the first crash is quite remarkable.

The condition is simply amasing! Russia is a real time machine!
Note that in the coffin of one of the pilots pictured (post 6), you can clearly see the leather jacket and uniform in an extremely good state of preservation.

Thanks for the thread...interesting photos. Do you know if the people in the photos specifically look for downed aircraft?

I found those photos on EnglishRussia website. It didn't say if those people specifically look for crash sites. I read somewhere that there is an organization in Russia called "Poisk", which transtales to Search, which look for missing fallen soldiers' remains to honor them, properly bury and identify if possible.

People from those photos look legitimate to me, not grave robbers. SB2 and IL2 crews were properly buried. IL2 pilot had readable documents on him which enabled identification.

                              Great photos, engine question though...

One of the photos shows a radial engine and other show what appears to be an inline possibly watercooled engine. Are both of these from the IL-2? Amazing condition of the tail section on the one crash in the wooded area!
