RAAF Spitfire pilot finally laid to rest.

Not to sure if anyone saw this but thought I'd share it wth you,

"An Australian World War II fighter pilot whose remains were discovered late last year, 66 years after he died, will finally be laid to rest.

RAAF Flight Lieutenant Henry Lacy Smith will be buried in a Commonwealth war graves cemetery in Normandy next week, in the lead up to ANZAC day.

His remains were discovered in November when his Spitfire plane was dug out of the Orne Estuary in Normandy.

Minister for Veteran Affairs Warren Snowden says the soldier will receive full military honours.

"And I'll be there along with the chief of Air Force Air Marshal Mark Bizkin, with the flight lieutenant's niece and nephew, and he'll be buried with full military honours," he said.

Mr Snowden says Lieutenant Smith was from Sans Souci in New South Wales.

He was shot down by anti air-craft fire on June 11, 1944."

Thanks for posting. Is there any data on his combat career?
